is standing by for us. let's go to the coast now with rob marciano. he is at kill devil hills in north carolina. rob, hello. it is on the way to you. >> it is. you know, you mentioned that rip current danger along the beeches, the east coast. including in north carolina. i think that now that this thing has become a category 4 and the track continues to hold and bring a very close to the shoreline here, these people along these beaches and these inland communities are going to be talking about much, much more than just rip currents. we could see category 1, 2 or 3 strength winds here on the coast. even if the thing stays offshore. if you mentioned this, evacuation orders for hyde and dare county. dare county, all visitors you on. schools are closed. the beachgoers and the storm onlookers are already out here. the way the landscape is set up tease coast different from the gulf of mexico. you don't worry so much about storm surge. it is low tide now. waves are building, high tide will be up right where we are standing. there are slifvers of the outer bank. in hurricane's past have been c

yellin joining us from dover. a pretty big upset, yes? >> reporter: huge, kyra. huge upset. christine o'donnell was far behind in the polls. had significantly less money and was being gunned for by national republicans and republicans in her own state who are running, running in a campaign essentially against her. she was up against the establishment supported candidate mike castle, nine-term congressman from this state. very well-known. but she surprised everyone and won last night. the big question now is can she go on and win in a general election? this is a state that's heavily democratic and there's news now, kyra, the national republicans have said essentially because they think she cannot win they're not going to pour money into her race. i got a chance to talk to her last night and asked her what she thinks of the fact that the national republicans won't support her. here's a bit of that interview. we've been told this evening gnat national republicans, party organization that often funds campaigns like yours is not going to fund yours and many national republicans said simply y

, a category 4. expect it to pass us to the north. 8:00 a.m. on friday with winds 115 miles an hour and pull to the north. that's a look at where it is now. you get an eidea of the strengt. let's get an idea on what's happening on the coast in the carolinas. rob marciano, what do you have for us? >> reporter: well, the sun is back out, reynolds. we've been in the cloud cover, the outflow you've been depicting with the satellite picture, but clearly the rainfall is pretty far off the coa coast. the winds, though, have picked up, and the waves have picked up as well. it's getting more rough here, larger swells rolling in probably anywhere from 8 to 12-footers at this point. the difference between here and, say, the gulf of mexico during a landfalling hurricane you get more surge over there but you get bigger waves here with the runup so that's going to be a huge issue going forward through this afternoon and tonight. we're going to see 20 or 30-footers washing up. where there's not protective dunes like here kill devil hills, those will wash out roadways. they can cut an entire inlet like hurr
